Household hazardous waste disposal events in 20211

The City of Troy has entered a new partnership with Rensselaer County and Town of Bethlehem to offer household hazardous waste disposal events in 2022.

These events, scheduled for throughout the second half of the year, will provide residents of the participating municipalities the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through normal garbage collection service.

Residents wishing to participate in upcoming programs will need to register online by visiting the jointly-hosted website. A registration link will be published at a later date.

Residents without internet access can contact their community’s municipal liaison; a list of those individuals will be posted once available. The disposal event is a free service available to residents of the participating municipalities only.  Residents who have not pre-registered will be unable to utilize the program.

For additional information, please contact Renee Panetta, City Recycling Coordinator, at renee.panetta@troyny.gov.

Once specific locations and dates have been determined, a complete list of acceptable items as well as prohibited items will be available on the program registration site, and via press release.  Please note: HHW events will NOT be collecting electronics, tires or shredding. These items will be collected at separate events, where offered by specific municipalities

The program vendor will also set up appointments to collect hazardous waste from businesses and commercial entities; however there will be fees associated with disposal of these materials, which will be the sole responsibility of the business owner.

“These free disposal events help Collar City residents and families safely dispose of harmful chemicals and products from their homes while reducing their environmental impact,” said Mayor Patrick Madden in a press release. “It keeps toxic and hazardous materials away from local landfills. I encourage Troy residents to participate in this valuable program during the 2022 collection events.”
